Nursing matters because you see your nurse more than you see anybody else. If I'm in the hospital or my family is in the hospital, I want them to treat me or my family member like their family. And I feel like learning from this program they teach us that's the most important part.
I believe that the nursing program here definitely prepares you for careers in the future. You learn so much, but they still care about you knowing the material.
We have a bunch of skills lab that help us learn our skill. So we'll go in there, we have a bed, we had the mannequins, we have the materials. By the time you get to clinical, we perfected in our skills lab, so like you're more confident going in it's like okay, I'm ready. I know what I'm doing.
The nursing program offers many scholarships like Project Earn. I actually received the Project Earn scholarship, I didn't have to pay for anything else. Once I finished with financial aid, it was definitely helpful. Here at West, you have several opportunities as far as level of education you can get. They have an associate's degree and then further go on to the BSN program.
I'm from a small town, so I know that rural environments really do need health care. Rural environments is very important, and the resources in rural environments are not usually there but having nursing and doctors offices and stuff like that-- it's pretty important.
