As a freshman, you're required to stay on, but I'm glad that did. It help me get involved on campus-- It allowed me to explore more.
Gilbert is our freshman dorm. You will have a roommate, a bathroom, kitchen area, a living area, and a study room-- it's really nice. It has a real community feel to it.
We do have a convenient grill at the bottom. They stay open late, so I really appreciate that for Gilbert. Going into being upperclassmen, you do have more options.
You can stay in Hoover, Patterson or Selden--
You get to have your own individual rooms, individual bathrooms.
Living on campus has a lot of major perks. Of course the biggest one is having social life. The thing about West Alabama is is extremely family-oriented.
One good thing about being a freshman in Gilbert is you do live in the center of campus.
The class is a three minute walk. So being on campus definitely is very convenient. Students get free access to the gym. They have fitness classes. They have swim classes. They even have a game room in there. We even have a lake that you can run out a canoe and just relax with friends. It doesn't cost anything, and on top of that any type of sporting event or event on campus is completely free for students. I think that's one of the biggest things that I love about campus.
Overall, I enjoy living on campus. I enjoy the activities that they have, from the RA's, that gets students more involved.
So I really enjoy being an RA being able to help those students get well adjusted to campus, and also guide those students to learn what college is supposed to be-- how college is supposed to be.
